On October 31, FLaRE and RFPD schools from Franklin, Gadsden, and Leon counties came together to collaborate and create “Dream Teams” to provide Reading Leadership for their schools. The district office of Gadsden county hosted a half-day Reading Leadership Institute similar to the ones held across the state during the summer of 2007. Principals and coaches from 20 schools were in attendance to learn how to transform their Reading Leadership Teams from “teams on paper” to teams of people that can “Move their Schools”. The teams discovered the power of the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Literacy Leadership Teams” and learned how to put FLaRE’s Literacy Plan of Action (LPA) to good use. Participants were provided with team-time during the inservice to assess their current roster of Reading Leadership members and determine possible needs for modification. Many of the Principals in attendance decided to make adjustments to their current Reading Leadership Team rosters and Coordinators have been providing on-site service to coaches and teams to support the successful transitions.
