The students of Boynton Beach Community High had the pleasure of having Sonia Schreiber Weitz visit them and share some stories of her Holocaust experiences. Weitz, a Holocaust survivor, is the author of the book, Facing History and Ourselves: I Promised I Would Tell, which is a combination of her poetry and diary entries during the Holocaust. For 2 hours, Mrs. Weitz entertained over 300 students with her anecdotes, poetry, and personal reflections. Students were able to ask specific questions about what they had read. Abby Synder, a reading teacher at Boynton Beach Community High, was instrumental in bringing Mrs. Weitz down from her home in Massachusetts.
Principal Kathleen Perry and her staff also hold special themed nights for the parents of Boynton Beach Community High School’s 1,500+ students. For example, a Parent Efficacy Night was offered to provide strategies for parents to use to encourage success in their children. Next week BBCHS will celebrate mathematics with Pi Day and will focus on learning about activities that families can do together to increase students’ interest in math. |
