Upcoming Events

On May 6, 2009 from 8:15 AM till 1:30 PM a round table professional development will be hosted at Mays Middle School in their Media Center. This round table professional development will consist of open-ended discussions and entail presentations, discussions, and debates. The PD will consist of several topics of interest in which participants will choose two topics they wish to attend. The round table will be facilitated by several of my reading coaches and administrators from my assigned FLaRE schools. Please advise your teachers, coaches, assistant principals, principals to attend and RSVP to Dagonzal@mail.ucf.edu no later than May 1, 2009.

The topics include the following:

  • Explicit Instruction
  • Socratic Circles
  • Classroom Management in Intensive Reading and Math Classes
  • Passive verses Active Learning
  • Literature Circles
  • Implementation of Activities, Novels and Activities during Reading Block
  • Constructivism
  • Determined to Effect Change in 21st Century Schools: Yes, You Can! Yes, We Did!

Literacy Coaching Clearinghouse

The Literacy Coaching Clearinghouse is a joint venture of the International Reading Association and National Council of Teachers of English:

  • To increase the knowledge base, research, and practice of literacy coaching as a form of teacher professional learning that builds teachers’ capacities to offer quality literacy instruction to students and, in turn, to increase students’ literacy achievement.
  • To assist districts, schools, and literacy coaches in their development of quality coaching programs based upon findings from literacy coaching research, other professional development research, and coaches’ own practices.
  • To bring together people interested in forming a professional learning community who are deeply interested in literacy coaching and want to maximize its potential for the learning of all educators and students they serve.
